Chubby sells the records

So after my telling off from Mel (and Kirsty and anonymous....I hate that guy) I am back. There is a reason for my lack of blogging recently, well actually there are several;
1. Summer school - it starts this weekend.
2. Dean Jones wedding, Simon was putting together a band for the evening do and it all went crazy so I was helping with that (it went very well once we started the second set).
3. Summer school cell material - it starts this weekend - I'm still writing material - what idiot thought 'Holiness' was a good theme?!?!
4. And another kind of bigger reason which I can't quite blog about yet but hope to really soon.
Anyway on Sunday I was back at BBC Essex however this time not as a broadcast assistant's assistant, I was the BA for the afternoon. I was really pleased to be asked to cover a shift for the first time and it was great getting to work with the people on the shows I normally do anyway for my first time. I was really nervous about it but all went well. Steve's show was great and went without a hitch. And Eric's was the same.
Eric had Chubby Checker on the phone as his guest this week, I was quite excited about this, the guy is a pretty big deal worldwide and changed the face of music and dance forever when he brought the world the twist.
As a good slavo boy, rank and position are inbuilt into me so being this way when I rang him I addressed him as 'Mr Checker' (his real name's Ernest Evans but this seemed too formal) so I had a nice chat with him making sure his line was clear and putting through to the studio and before he went through he said this to me;
"Now son, when you put me through to the studio, tell the boys in there not to call me Mr Checker. Mr Checker doesn't sell records - Chubby sells the records". And with that I put him through.
An absolute legend.
